Christmas Jumper Day party games: 6 no-prep ideas

Wearing a daft jumper is the easy part. These six games turn it into a proper party for an office, a classroom or a group of friends. Nothing to buy, nothing to print, family-friendly.

When is Christmas Jumper Day 2026?

Christmas Jumper Day 2026 is on Thursday 10 December. That is the official date given by Save the Children UK, who run it as a fundraising event. Their page also says any other day that suits your school, workplace or group is fine.

It is a UK tradition, but the idea travels well. An office, a school class or a group of friends anywhere can borrow it: pick a day, wear your best jumper and play some games.

Six games for a jumper party

Jumper awards

  • Players 5 or more
  • Time 10 min
  • You need Paper slips and a pen
  1. Agree four or five categories, for example Most Lights, Most Homemade, Ugliest (a compliment here) and Best Pun.
  2. Everyone writes one vote per category on a slip. Voting for yourself is not allowed.
  3. Count the slips out loud, category by category. Ties are settled by applause.
  4. Hand out silly awards, such as a paper crown or a round of applause. Ask each winner to tell the story of their jumper.

Spot the detail

  • Players 4 or more, in pairs
  • Time 5 min
  • You need Nothing
  1. Make pairs. Each pair studies each other's jumper and outfit for 30 seconds.
  2. Partners turn back to back. Each one changes one small thing: push up a sleeve, swap a bauble, flip a collar.
  3. Turn round and guess what changed. One point for a correct guess.
  4. Swap partners and go again. Three rounds usually find the best observer.

Jumper charades

  • Players 4 or more, in teams
  • Time 15 min
  • You need One phone
  1. Open our Christmas charades page and split into 2 to 4 teams.
  2. Pick the Easy level if there are kids and keep the Christmas and winter category on.
  3. Whoever acts must keep their jumper on and use it: sleeves, pompoms and all. A flapping reindeer antler is welcome.
  4. Highest score wins. The winners choose the next game.

Jumper bingo

  • Players 6 or more
  • Time 10 min
  • You need Paper and a pen each
  1. Each player draws a 3 by 3 grid and fills it with jumper features: a snowflake, a reindeer, a bell, flashing lights, a pompom, a pun, a scarf, a handmade jumper, a pet in the picture.
  2. Walk around and spot those features on other people's jumpers. Ask before you stare.
  3. When you find one, write that person's name in the square. One name per person per card.
  4. First full row, column or diagonal shouts BINGO. Want ready-made cards? Try our winter bingo.

Festive relay

  • Players 6 or more, in 2 teams
  • Time 10 min
  • You need One big spare jumper per team, a marker
  1. Make two teams in lines. Put a marker, like a chair or a cup, about 5 metres away. Each team gets one oversized jumper.
  2. The first player pulls the jumper on over their clothes, walks quickly to the marker and back. No running indoors on slippery floors.
  3. Take the jumper off, pass it to the next player and they do the same.
  4. The first team to finish the whole line sits down and cheers. Winners pick the music for the next round.

Who wore it?

  • Players 5 or more
  • Time 10 min
  • You need Paper slips and a pen. No phones
  1. Everyone secretly writes three clues about their jumper on a slip: where it came from, who gave it, one odd detail. No names.
  2. Fold the slips and put them in a bowl. A host reads one clue set aloud.
  3. The group has one minute to discuss and name the owner. Owners must keep a straight face.
  4. Reveal the owner and let them tell the full story. Right guesses score a point.

Going alone to a jumper party

  1. The jumper does half the talking. A funny detail gives people an easy first line, so pick one with a story.
  2. Arrive early. A half-empty room is easier to walk into and you will meet people one at a time.
  3. Volunteer for the awards or the relay. Team games give you a role and a reason to talk.
  4. Ask about their jumper: where it came from, who gave it. Everyone has a story about at least one terrible jumper.
