Virtual Christmas cracker party game

Pull a cracker on your phone and pass it round the table. Every pull gives a joke or riddle, a paper-crown dare and a prompt for who goes next. No crackers in the cupboard? Print slips and make your own.

Pull a cracker

Pass the phone. Whoever pulls reads the joke aloud, then taps to show the answer.

What is a Christmas cracker?

A Christmas cracker is a cardboard tube wrapped in bright paper. Two people pull it apart, it gives a small bang or snap, and inside are usually a paper crown, a small gift and a joke. It is a Christmas table tradition in the United Kingdom, Ireland and several Commonwealth countries.

By tradition the crown goes on at the table and stays on through the meal. This page keeps the fun and drops the cardboard: you get the joke, the crown dare and the turn order on one phone.

Make real crackers at home

Home-made crackers are cheap and need no gunpowder snap. Print the slips below, cut them out and tuck one set into each tube.

  1. Use a toilet-roll tube. Wrap it in a rectangle of wrapping paper or tissue paper, about 3 times as long as the tube, and tie one end with string or ribbon.
  2. Fold a paper crown from a strip of tissue paper or coloured paper, roll it small and put it in the tube with one slip and a tiny gift (a sweet, a pencil, a sticker). Tie the other end.
  3. No snap? Skip it. Everyone shouts BANG together as the cracker is pulled, and the louder the better. Keep real snaps away from small children.
  4. Choose how many crackers and print. Each slip has a joke and answer, a crown dare and a turn prompt. Press the button again for a new set.

Keep it kind

  1. Every dare is optional. If someone says pass, they pass, and nobody asks why.
  2. Dares are small, quick and safe: no climbing, no food challenges, nothing that picks on a person.
  3. The crown must fit loosely and stay away from candles.
